Mobile Phones

Dear Parent / Carer,

I am writing to inform you of the guidelines that staff will be following regarding student’s use of mobile phones within Darton College.

Whilst we believe that mobile phones can be a valuable aid to learning at certain times during lessons, we have found that increasingly they are being used inappropriately.

Students at Darton are allowed to have a mobile phone with them whilst at College, however if students are found using a mobile phone in lessons, the member of staff will ask the student once to put the phone away. Non-compliance of this request or if the student is found using the phone again during that lesson, it will be confiscated by a member of staff.

In addition, if a student is using the phone for inappropriate means i.e. filming, taking pictures or texting / messaging without consent, or to access inappropriate materials the phone will be immediately confiscated.

Refusal to hand over a phone to a member of staff will result in the student having a mobile phone ban placed upon them for a fixed or permanent period of time.

If this happens, we will ensure that the phone is switched off and locked away in a safe place. The phone will only be returned to parents or carers during the following times:-

Monday – Friday mornings between 8.00 and 10.00 am.

Monday – Friday afternoons from 3.15 pm to 4.30 pm.

If the above times are not convenient, please telephone Darton College reception and we can arrange a suitably convenient time within the school day.

I hope that you understand the need for the College to have these guidelines and that these are made with the best interests of your son / daughter’s education in mind.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs S Rossides
Principal
