We will then use the information we gain from this and from our student questionnaire to improve our current practice where appropriate.

Mr Sinton is extremely proud of the progress that the rugby players in all years have made since starting the teams last year and would like to thank everyone that has supported and encouraged them.

Health Day – Thursday 22nd March
Darton College has organised a non-uniform day to coincide with Health Day. Students are required to pay £1.00 to wear sports PE kit, sports clothing, sports uniform or even dress up as their favourite sports person.

Sport Relief – Thursday 22nd March – Lunchtime
This year we are really excited to be raising money for Sport Relief 2012. As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives.

As the nation celebrates the biggest ever year of sport, Sport Relief 2012 will be kicking off at Darton College on Thursday 22rd March.
To do our bit and raise money we will be:

ASKING STUDENTS AND STAFF TO PAY £1 TO COMPLETE 1 MILE!
Students and staff can walk it, sprint it, hop it, skip it, row it, run it!
Once £1 is paid a sponsor sheet will be issued
to gain as many sponsors as possible…….

As you may be aware, throughout the year we have run a number of skills based learning days for our students. The previous day was based on ‘charity’ and the next is based on the theme of Health; it will take place on Thursday March 22nd 2012.

Throughout the day students from different year groups will be split between 5 of the different skills areas of the college and will take part in immersive learning activities designed to improve their knowledge of aspects of personal health issues relevant to them. They will also further develop a variety of skills through the day that will be beneficial to them in their everyday studies and in preparation for the world of work.

The date chosen coincides with Sport Relief 2012, which starts the following day, on Friday March 23rd; because of the clear links to our skills day themes, alongside the learning taking place, we are intending to carry out a range of activities designed to promote aspects of a healthy life style throughout the day to raise money for two Charities.

The activities taking place on the day include;

• Non-uniform ‘sports-wear’. Students will be expected to be active during the day so should dress accordingly (no heels or inappropriate clothing, jeans etc). This will cost £1 and be collected throughout the week commencing the 19th March.
• The opportunity to take part in a Sports Relief mile during their lunch time around the school fields.
• A Wii fit competition, taking place through the day, which will run by raffle (tickets will be available all week for 20p each), students will come out of their lesson for a short time to compete with each other with the best student over the day winning a prize.
• A ‘Zumba Mile’ taking place during lunch time in the lecture theatre which will be streamed live in the atrium. Entry will cost £1 and the last surviving student will win a prize.
• A Health and Wellbeing marketplace that will run during lunch time in the atrium.
• ‘Taster’ sessions for different fruits at lunch run by the catering team.

We intend to split all money raised through the activities taking place equally, between Sports Relief and St John Ambulance, representatives of which are graciously giving up their time on the day to help with the activities taking place on site.

We appreciate your backing with these activities and support in helping to raise a significant amount of money for our chosen charities both of which do fantastic work both home and abroad. We look forward to letting you know the results of this exciting day.

We are running a target review day on Monday 27th February for all year groups. Normal lessons will be suspended for the day and you will be given the opportunity to meet with Form Tutors to discuss the current targets and progress of your child; your child is required to attend school only for the appointment time with you.

Comments from parents/carers made about the target review day last year were very positive:

‘The day was very informative and helpful to see the progress my son has made’

Students will be arranging the appointments in school after half-term; notification of the time will be written in your child’s planner. The day will run from 10.00am until 7.00pm and will be a valuable opportunity for you to discuss your child’s academic progress and also any pastoral issues you wish to raise. Students with an Individual Education Plan will also have the opportunity to discuss progress towards their personal targets.
