The Venue – Darton College
Darton College lies to the north of Barnsley town, in South Yorkshire. Its £28 million new building, funded by the Building Schools for the Future programme, is a prominent landmark, clearly visible from the M1 motorway. Approximately 900 students from the age of 11 – 16 attend Darton College, which has been in existence, in some form since 1935.
With the students at its heart, the College continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in education, including innovative use of learning spaces, state of the art technology and a curriculum designed to best meet the needs of every learner.
The ethos of the College is the education of the whole child and each curriculum area plays a role in that: art exhibitions by school and local artists, a ‘mini-Olympics’ with medals awarded by Sir Steve Redgrave, charity fund-raising for a trip to South Africa, trips abroad, numerous dance shows and a full scale production of Little Shop of Horrors, visiting poets, celebration of World Book day (in fancy dress!), sending rockets into space, enterprise days, theatre trips and a bulging trophy cabinet all attest to this.
We are looking forward to further continued success on our journey towards outstanding with the fantastic support of students, staff, parents and partner organisations.
